Cultural Tour (6 days)
day 1: Tbilisi-Nekresi-Gremi-Telavi
Arrival in Tbilisi airport. meeting to the guide. Hotel accommodation.
day 2: Tbilisi-Nekresi-Gremi-Telavi
Breakfast.Visiting to Kakheti (Wine country). By the way, stopping near Shuamta monastery. The monastery includes several small churches. Afterwards, we will visit New Shuamta monastery (XVI century), which is currently functioning. Then we visit Ikalto academy (X-XII century), which represented an important educational center of the east Georgia, where were studying not only Georgians but students from abroad. It is built during the renaissance the history of Georgia. Here was studied famous Georgian poet and philosopher, Shota Rustaveli, who wrote an immortal poem “The Knight in the Panther’s Skin” and devoted to the King Tamar. Lunch in Telavi restaurant. We go to see Akaverdi church (XI century), which is situated in the distance of 20 km from Telavi. Alaverdi is the second highest church in Georgia (50 meters), afterwards, we will go to Nafareuli, in the “Twins” cellar, where we will attend to baking process of the bread and barbecue, held wine degustation and taste Churchkhela. Out trip going to Gremi (XVI century) – the capital of the Khakheti Kingdom and fortress, which represents an architectural masterpiece. We will see the monastery complex – Nekresi (IV-XIV century). In the evening returning to Telavi. Leisure time. Supper and overnight in Telavi.
day 3 : Telavi-Tsinandali-Signagi Tbilisi
A transfer in Tsinandali. In Tsinandali there are a manor of noble family (nowadays to - a museum) Aleksandre Chavchavadze surrounded with a perfect garden. Visitation of wine cellars of 19 centuries.Then we will drive tp Bodbe (IV-X IIof centuries) where according to historical sources Nino, Enlightener of Georgia was buried.. Then we will go in medieval a city a strong hold of Signagi. With a city the beautiful nature, Caucasian mountains and Alazani Valley. Let's visit a wine cellar where you will have a possibility to participate in process of a batch of the Georgian bread, preparation of churchkhela and certainly, to taste traditional Kakheti wine and чачу. A supper and night in Signagi.
day 4: Tbilisi-Kazbegi-Tbilisi
Breakfast. Tour to Kazbegi along Georgian Military Road. En route Ananuri Fortress XVI-XVIII c.c., overview Jinvali reservoir. We will visit Gergeti Church of “Holy Trinity” founded in XIV c. The Church is in the mountains at height of 2170 m from the sea level. In Russian literature this Church is famous from the poem of Alexander Pushkin “The Monastery on Kasbek”. In the evening departure to Tbilisi. Overnight in Tbilisi. Driving to Darial gorge. The Monastery complex of Archangels Michael and Gavriil , XXI c. Overnight in Tbilisi
day 5: Tbilisi-Vardzia-Borjomi-Tbilisi
After breakfast we will leave for Vardzia monastery complex (XII-XIII c.c.) 19 storied rock town, stretched over 900 m along river Mtkvari. There carved about 600 spaces, cells, stores, baths, libraries, secret ways, remnants of running water. About 1000 monks were living there and while invasions there may be hidden 50 000 men.. We will visit the fortress citadel – Rabati (IX c.) The fortress Rabat was recently restored completely and its has the sight of its origin. Here there are a lot of samples of Georgian, Turkish and Russian architecture. Then we will visit cave city Vardzia (XII-XIII c.c.). Then we will drive to Borjomi and will taste Borjomi mineral water of volcanic origin. Return to Tbilisi. Overnight in Tbilisi.
day 6: Tbilisi-Mtskheta-Tbilisi
After Breakfast we leave for the ancient capital of Georgia Mtskheta. (UNESCO heritage) It was founded in the second half of 1 millennium B.C. At first we will visit Jvari (VI c.), Cathedral Scetitskhoveli (XI c.), Samtavro (XI-XIII c.c.). Dinner in popular restaurant “Salobie”. After dinner we will depart to Shio-Mgvime Monastery (VI c.) founded by one of thirteen Assyrian fathers arrived in Georgia as Christian missioners. The caves dug by monks relate the same period. Return to Tbilisi. Free time.
City tour, visits to: Grand Cathedral of Georgia “Sameba” built in connection with 1500 anniversary of Georgian autocephaly and 2000 years of Christianity in Georgia (1995-2004), Holy Church “Metekhi”, built in V century and reconstructed in XIII c., Narikala, the sole of Tbilisi (city contemporary – IV c.), “Abanotubani” (Bath precinct) – Tbilisi Center well-known by the bath complexes built on the site of sulfur springs. Constructed while various times in XVII – XIX c.c. they are very popular among the local population and foreigners as well. Sioni Cathedral – built XII-XIII c.c., Anchiskhati Church (Vic.) is one of the oldest Churches in Tbilisi, blessed in honor of nativity of Blessed Virgin. In the evening, according to guests wish visits to sulfur baths. Supper in National Restaurant. Overnight in Tbilisi.
day 7: Tbilisi
Breakfast in a hotel. Free day. Transfer to the airport Departure
